CLUB NEWS

Quite a lot has been happening since November last year!

    • We have received a grant for $1,500 and that was allocated to items like hall rental for the year, and a new lap top computer.
    • March saw the new Vice President Kate Orr elected at committee level .
    • Our treasurer received an award from Westpac this year Congratulation Vince !
    • Sarien de Beer was nominated for ‘Volunteer of the Year' and invited to a special breakfast !
    • Also Peel Senior Net have been awarded a Certificate of Achievement in the Mandurah Community!

SPEAKERS.

We've had a wonderful selection of speakers during the last year. They've included:

  • Dave Smith from Super Nova who gave us some insight into Window-7.
  • Dianne Russell – Taylor who explained her connections with the Regional Peel Development Commission and what she does in particular plus the seven regions of W. A.
Mayor Paddi gave a talk on Mandurah and the Peel Region. She showed a map clarifying the breath length, rivers and land size which included Lake Clifton and the unusual shape of the whole area.
  • Anne Williams from the Have-a-Go Newspaper explained her activity as co-coordinator. She is semi retired and laughingly said she gets paid for being a social butterfly!
  • Blanche and Ken Holzman Demonstrated Quantum Technology, with the aid of several digital equipment pieces to assist the sight impaired.
  • Jurgen Steinert of Lasar Computers. Mandurah. Gave an excellent talk into the insight of how computers actually work.
  • Our last speaker, to finish off the year, was David Templeman MLA. Followed by a very festive Christmas afternoon tea !

The years events have been received with enthusiasm they included

  • the 'Bring and Buy Table'.
  • Don Randall's Forum at the Bowling Club rooms Halls Head.
  • We enjoyed the Buddies get together in the Computer Room it was a chance to get to know the Buddies for one's own district.
  • We also manned a stall at the Foundation Christian College at their ‘Fair'. A lot of fun and interest was shown to our stall.
  • Our Vice-President Kate Orr attended the annual ASCCA conference this year which was most rewarding.
  • The Digital Photo competition created a great deal of interest among members and was judged and sponsored by Peter Taylor, Manager of Camera house, Mandurah. All entries were beautiful he felt and everyone was a winner !
  • Seniors Expo this year held at Ac-cent brought a lot of interest to Peel Senior Net. Our own volunteers manned the stall and handed out various information and pamphlets. Plus a couple of hampers were raffled !
