At the Committee meeting on 15th November 2002, due to unforeseen circumstances, John Schmidt resigned as President and Vice President and Judy Brealey took over as acting President.

On 11th February 2003 our Past President, Hilary Turner, died suddenly whilst he was enjoying his weekly bicycle ride with his club. His loss was felt by many and PSN was definitely the poorer in technological “know-how” with his passing.

At a Special General Meeting on 24th March 2003 Bill Frazier accepted nomination as President and was accepted unanimously. 2 nominations were received to fill vacancies on the committee. Judy Brealey resumed her position of Vice President.

The Committee now were:

President Bill Frazier
Vice President Judy Brealey
Secretary Gwen Swaby
Treasurer John Fennell
Committee Marilyn Arnup
June Kelly
Robert Stewart
Joyce Chalkley
Chris Dodd
Chris Jackson

President Bill Frazier

Following the March meeting our Editor of the PSN Newsletter, Margot Jones, advised that she was unable to continue so Christine Jackson volunteered to take over that role.

Many Special Interest Groups were formed, the convenors of some of them were:

  • Liaison Officer (Public Relations) – Judy Brealey and Joyce Calkley

At the General Meeting on 28th April 2003 it was decided to create sub-committees to assist the aims of PSN. These were discussed and involvement of members sought for the following:

  1. Web page. Sybil Smith, Barbara Tuckfield and Bill Frazier will work on this for improvements and changes.
  2. PSN Newsletter. An Editor is required. Gwen Swaby & Robert Stewart are now helping with this but volunteers are needed.
  3. New Members . To approach, welcome and help new members. John Fennell & Gwen Swaby to assist with this.

Items discussed and reports given at this meeting were:

Sybil Smith said the Web page is making good progress.

Ed Crane explained that he has the membership on DataBase and is willing to help train others.

June Kelly emphasised the importance for members to attend the morning tea on Thursday1st May at 10.00 am at the Stage Door Restaurant. Cost $5.50 .

Marilyn Arnup called for volunteers for the Computer Room as supervisors, pointing out what a great help to new comers this is. New session being planned. During the break for afternoon tea many of our members stepped forward as volunteers for the Computer Room and other areas. They were - Olga Hedamann, Barbara Tuckfield, Janete Lanepard, Jean Hobson, Robert Stewart, Gena Nissen ( later in the year) and Joyce Chalkley. We thank them.

It was announced at this meeting that the Committee had approved revised annual membership fees as follows:

The fees are $15 single, $25couple per annum. From May onwards fees are halved. From October the full fees will carry over until the New Year.

Workshops planned for May included a 2hr Scanner course and a general access period. This for accredited members only. The maintenance courses included-

  • Defragmentation
  • Digital cameras
  • Scanner (2)
  • Word skills ( processing)
  • Touch typing program
  • Mail merging
  • Understanding keyboard short cuts.

In August 2003 our “Web Weaver”, Sybil Smith, announced the new PSN Web Page address was www.peelseniors.net. There was an 's' added to 'peelseniors', to enable this site to break away from the old site which was not workable.

During May 2003 the present PSN Web Page was deleted in order to establish a brand new one. This was done with the volunteer aid of Mandurah Senior College, an 'on line' group of students at their office in the Mandurah Forum. The new design incorporated the Web page recently designed by Edwin Bouwhuis and member Sybil Smith.

Iris Harrison, who took over the Data Base Register of Members from Ed Crane in October 2002, advised that due to other commitments at the Centre she would be no longer able to fill this position. Merv Brindley volunteered to take it over.

A position as Welfare Officer was established and Edith Smoothy kindly volunteered for the job. Helpers who offered assistance in this role were Jean McLoughlin, Robert Stewart Joy Edwards and Dixon Woollam. Members were requested to inform them if they heard of someone needing cheering up because of ill health or a family problem.

At this stage the PSN Training Courses held on the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 1.30pm or 2.45pm.consisted of:

  • Digital camera work, how to use the photo shop and paint shop areas to enhancing photos.
  • Downloading in general from Internet to CD and backups such as Zip drive which I learnt today can store the equivalent approximately 70 floppy disks.
  • Scanning and defragmenting refresher.
  • How to manage Zip files and files in general.
  • More information on Anti Virus programs.

On the social side, there was a. morning tea at the Amalfi Café. 10am. Thursday 4th Sept $6, and a planned trip to Kings Park on Thursday 25th Sept..
