President Merv Brindley

Our new President emphasized that the group would carry on in its present manner, no major changes envisioned. He said that this is our club and we need feed back from all our gatherings of members. The AGM is the only formal meeting he said. He then called for volunteers for a few of those necessary extra jobs to keep the club running like helping with the teas, stacking chairs, setting up the equipment , taking charge of the Raffle or be a 'Buddy'. It's surprising how many other things must be done.

He was warmly thanked.

That same month, October of 2004 Peel SeniorNet enjoyed taking part in a display at the Forum.

300 pamphlets were distributed. Our first copy of the Special Edition PSN Newsletter was also shown at the Senior Citizens Centre.

In November that year our Chief Training Officer Tom Hoffman, put together the learning areas that we needed for the following year. Tom explained that the training would only cost $3 a session and that would pay for the use of the computer room and computers.

Local MLA, David Templeman, was our speaker at the November meeting.

Mr. David Templeman MLA.

Any of us who have seen David performing at the Arts Centre have found him most entertaining for his theatre expertise. He has many other interest however, one being politics and involvement in many local issues . David’s overview of where Mandurah is going in the future made an enlightening and interesting talk.. Our region has so many advantages - its beauty, life style, range of diversity and particularly the people themselves. Information and technology is all important these days and plays a very big part in future planning.

Ron Pereira, a member of the Perth Video Makers Club provided one of our most interesting talks early in the year. Using his own computer and specialised programs, he gave us an understanding of video making and editing. This was followed by a 2- minute video demonstrating how to create a 30 second documentary by “capturing”, “trimming”, moving clips along the time line, “inserting”, adding titles, music and narration.

February 2005 - Training Officer Tom Hoffman clarified the future planned courses on Microsoft word, Microsoft XL, Publisher etc. The atmosphere more like workshops. There have been enquiries for several special programs such as Genealogy, Power Point, Account programs and Digital camera. PSN will have access to the computer room at no charge on one half day per week, Mondays or Fridays. The other three half days will be nominated for use by the Senior Citizens Centre and PSN may be asked to provide tutors for any classes that might be held on these days . Half days on Fridays will be available for PSN members at no cost.

Trade Table

This has proved to be popular as a new innovation this year but it was decided that the items for sale should be computer related.

Social Events

Peel Seniornet members have enjoyed a number of excellent social events.

Including a Busselton trip, a visit to Abingdon Village and gardens which gave our members a chance to use their cameras and to Meadow Springs Golf Club Plus a mystery tour organised by Gwen Swaby.

Gwen being hostess at morning tea, meadow springs.

Seniors Expo this year took place at the Performing Arts Centre on Wed 26 th & Thurs. 27 th Oct. 2005. Volunteers manned the stand and handed out various information pamphlets. The whole venue was packed with exciting groups including singing, music, theatre, art and keep fit programs. A great couple of days.
