Year nine – 2007-2008 REVIEW OF 2008 by Christine Jackson
President Christine gave her Annual Review The President gave her report of the past year, which consisted of congratulating the committee for their efforts during the past year, plus commenting on the achievements that have been evident, such as the Australia Day and the Community Award also the strides made in the learning programs. These have been greatly assisted by joining the Australia Seniors Computer group ASCCA. We also were lucky enough to receive a Grant which helped in procuring the services of a professional to hold a learning session in the computer room on Digital Photography.
Election of Officers .
Christine and the committee then stood aside for Merv Brindley as returning officer to chair the meeting. There was one only position left to fill, that of Vice President . This was voted upon and agreed to by Arthur Turvey.

Club News :- Training - Tom Hoffman. Tom an excellent and formal teacher continues to have many assistants to help members with their problems. They appear on the Schedule for Sessions as ‘General Helpers’. Sessions are held in the Computer Room at the Senior Citizens Centre on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. The details and members on duty are listed in the web siteunder ‘Training’. Each six months the Schedule for sessions is also notified to all members by e mail. This past year, with the aid of a Grant we enjoyed learning sessions for Digital Photography in the computer room. As from January to June 2009 there is a new plan in action. Now on the Website Another piece of news is that the City Council has organized upgrading the Computer room to Vista and Word 2007. This entailed the helpers & trainers learning themselves ! Peel Seniornet Library. This is now in operation and members participation is good. Interesting books and very useful tapes and other learning software available free of change. There is a register for signatures . Contributions for the library are from members and most welcome.
Buddies The ‘Meet the buddies’ Session in the computer room is always well received by members. As you all know it’s designed to help members and introduce them to their own Buddies in the districts where they live. Speakers - a few examples Speakers at the Monthly meetings have been very rewarding this year. Alasdair Wardle from Mandurah Library gave us an interest in writing our stories Steve Johnson of J-Line. Steve spoke on security programs. He gave us some very handy general knowledge Christopher Read. Christopher described a most interesting career with computers, commencing in 1973. He missed the first generation of computers which mainly consisted of calculator type machines Wendy Gilmour Spoke of her experiences and ‘New Horizons’. An initiative of the Seniors Recreation Council. Wendy is the coordinator. She told us of all her adventures which include white water rafting and free falling from an aircraft. A very lively 80 year old!
